Compound, prepare, and package pharmaceuticals as specified in a medication order or prescription under the supervision of a pharmacist. They are not permitted to counsel patients.
Duties- Receive and review prescriptions or refill requests. Select appropriate medication (right drug, strength, formulation). Identify discrepancies and communicate with a pharmacist to clarify.
- Accurately perform pharmaceutical and chemical calculations to prepare medications.
- Utilize pharmacy equipment to accurately weigh, measure, and pack medications.
- Fill and deliver controlled substances according to department policies and procedures.
- Prepare, package, and label pharmaceuticals according to regulations and pharmacy policies/procedures.
- Compound medications and sterile or nonsterile pharmaceuticals in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Determine refill amount, pull, and stocks automated dispensing machines (ADC's).
- Identify and pull expired medications per pharmacy policy.
- Perform inventory of pharmacy medications and supplies to maintain adequate stock to dispense medications needed by patients.
- Complete documentation required by regulations and pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Maintain medication security at all times.
- Perform medroom inspections.
Respond to routine inquiries from physicians, nurses and other staff within scope of practice. - Identify, report, and help resolve system issues and/or other items in need of repair such as submitting a ticket or calling a vendor.
- Participate in departmental orientation, training and quality assurance programs.
- Participate in department and hospital educational programs to maintain skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor.
- Perform pharmacy clerk and technician I functions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- At least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma
- Current and active, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician License in Arizona
- Current and active Pharmacy technician certification (PTCB or EXCPT)
- One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferred
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire
