Overview
The COMSEC Tier 2 Technical Support Technician provides critical frontline support to Army COMSEC users, troubleshooting specialized cryptographic equipment, software, keys, and operational issues. This role supports the Army’s Communications Security Operations Center (CSOC), ensuring secure, reliable, and compliant COMSEC operations. Technicians will analyze issues, guide customers through resolutions, elevate complex problems, and support testing and deployment of new COMSEC technologies.
This position is ideal for technically strong, customer‑focused professionals who thrive in a fast‑paced, mission‑critical environment and enjoy solving complex technical issues that directly support communications security.
- Provide expert technical support for COMSEC systems including MGC/CHO, ACES, SKL, TKL, iApp, and associated hardware/software.
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and document Tier 2 COMSEC issues, ensuring accurate, courteous, and timely support.
- Analyze trouble tickets, perform independent technical diagnostics, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Communicate with customers via phone, MS Teams, or email to walk them through solutions step‑by‑step.
- Access HPeSM and other government systems to research prior incidents, log accurate troubleshooting notes, and record final resolutions.
- Escalate unresolved issues to higher‑tier support or appropriate COMSEC SMEs and maintain follow‑through until resolution.
- Support COMSEC operations tasks such as account management, key processing, transfers, destruction, device initialization, INE setup, ECU loading, and OTAD operations.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain COMSEC peripheral devices and related workstation software/hardware.
- Analyze and resolve hardware, boot, connectivity, and configuration errors.
- Participate in COMSEC testing events for new/emerging technologies and provide feedback to Army test teams.
- Use test event knowledge to develop and update procedures for future COMSEC technology upgrades.
- Support installation/reinstallation of validated software and hardware changes for COMSEC workstations and platforms.
- Assist Army COMSEC accounts with upgrade support as new technologies are fielded.
- Maintain standardized configuration management data to ensure accounts remain compliant and up‑to‑date.
- Document all customer interactions, upgrade progress, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions clearly and accurately.
- Support production of reports, briefings, and project procedures as required.
- Send customer satisfaction surveys after each completed task.
- Participate in ongoing COMSEC technology training and testing to maintain proficiency and stay current with modernization initiatives.
- Maintain knowledge of COMSEC policies/procedures (e.g., AR 380‑40, TB 380‑41) and apply them during technical troubleshooting.
- Must possess 2 years of telecommunications/electronics vocational training or a professional certification from an ABET accredited technical school or equivalent military school.
- Intermediate knowledge of ACES and SKL equipment and Tactical Networking Environment.
- Possession of Net Ops Toolkit (J‑TNT) and IT certifications such as Security+, Network+, etc.;
Field Service Representative certification is desirable. - US citizenship required.
