Maintenance Superintendent

Gunnison Copper | Johnson Camp Mine | Cochise County, Arizona Full-time, site-based | Reports to the Senior Manager, Processing Operations and Maintenance

Lead the people, planning, and maintenance execution that keep a copper operation moving.

Gunnison Copper is seeking an experienced Maintenance Superintendent to lead mechanical and electrical maintenance at Johnson Camp Mine in southeastern Arizona, between Benson and Willcox. Our operation combines open-pit mining, heap-leach processing, and solvent extraction/electrowinning (SX/EW), including innovative Nuton bioleaching applications.

This is a visible, field-oriented leadership role with responsibility for safe work, equipment reliability, maintenance quality, and cost control. You will lead the Electrical Planner, Maintenance Planner, Electrical Supervisor, and Maintenance Supervisor, bringing planning and execution together to improve performance across processing equipment, fixed-plant assets, utilities, and assigned infrastructure.

What you will do
  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance supervisors and planners, establishing clear priorities, accountability, and performance expectations.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, corrective, and planned maintenance across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Coordinate weekly maintenance schedules, outages, shutdowns, and major repairs with Operations.
  • Ensure work packages include the labor, materials, tools, technical information, and safety controls needed for successful execution.
  • Improve equipment availability, reduce recurring failures, and lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, contractor performance, critical spare parts, and repair costs in partnership with Supply Chain.
  • Strengthen CMMS discipline and use performance measures to improve preventive maintenance completion, schedule compliance, backlog quality, and maintenance costs.
  • Maintain a strong field presence and reinforce energy isolation, electrical safety, pre-task planning, environmental protection, and stop-work expectations.
  • Support new equipment installations, commissioning, and the integration of new assets into maintenance programs.
What you bring
  • At least 10 years of progressive maintenance experience in mining, mineral processing, chemical processing, power generation, or comparable heavy industry.
  • At least five years of supervisory or maintenance leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of both industrial mechanical and electrical maintenance systems.
  • Experience developing preventive maintenance programs and coordinating outages, major repairs, and maintenance execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contractors, materials, and equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Proficiency with a CMMS, maintenance reporting, and technical documentation.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • A high school diploma or GED. Relevant technical training and substantial practical experience are valued; a bachelor’s degree is not required.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company vehicle-operation requirements.
Experience that will help you stand out
  • Direct experience in open-pit copper, heap-leach, hydrometallurgical, or SX/EW operations.
  • Leadership of maintenance supervisors and planners.
  • Experience with pumps, conveyors, crushing systems, motors, drives, electrical distribution, instrumentation, and process-fluid equipment.
  • Familiarity with MSHA requirements, NFPA 70E practices, and SAP, Maximo, or comparable CMMS software.
  • Technical education, an industrial maintenance apprenticeship, or a related degree.
  • Experience improving reliability during a startup, production ramp-up, or facility expansion.
