General Description: Joseph City Unified School District is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of District Business Manager. This position oversees the district's financial, operational, and administrative services, including budget development, auditing, procurement, and compliance with the Arizona Uniform System of Financial Records (USFR). Acting as the chief financial officer reporting to the Superintendent, they ensure fiscal stability, manage school facilities and transportation, and oversee payroll/employee benefits.
Key Responsibilities and Duties- Financial Management:
Develops, implements, and monitors the annual budget, manages district funds (bond/grants), and performs financial analyses. - Compliance & Reporting:
Ensures compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes and the USFR; prepares reports for the Board and state agencies. - Operational Oversight:
Manages purchasing, contracts, payroll, and often supervises food services and transportation. - Administration:
Works with the Superintendent to recommend employee benefits and salaries.
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting is preferred.
- Experience in public school or governmental accounting is preferred.
- Expertise in school finance, accounting software, and auditing processes is preferred.
Read and communicate verbally and in writing. Analyze and evaluate student progress and course curriculum. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manage staff, programs and facilities. Promote learning and ensure safety. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical TasksWork involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, and holding and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties.
Verbal communicative ability may be required of certain positions. Uses audio‑visual equipment, including computers and related technology, marker boards, bulletin boards, copiers and printers. May use hand tools, office equipment and power‑driven machinery. Considerable time outside the normal school hours is required and often exceeds ten hours per week. Is subject to phone calls at odd hours and other predictable and unpredictable demands.
Must maintain a condition of excellent physical and mental health.
- Master’s degree preferred.
