Registered Nurse - Medical​/Surgical

Inpatient adult medical-surgical nursing at the mouth of Canyon de Chelly — 12-hour shifts, seven shifts per two-week period.

Chinle sits in the heart of the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona, at the mouth of the legendary Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Flagstaff, Gallup, and Farmington are all within reach for weekend trips, and Monument Valley, Mesa Verde, and the Four Corners are close by.

Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility is a full-service hospital and outpatient center serving the Navajo Nation. The campus provides inpatient adult medical-surgical care, emergency medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, dental, behavioral health, and a range of specialty clinics. The Adult Care Unit is the inpatient medical-surgical unit, staffed by a stable core team with a supervisory nurse on the unit, an electronic health record used facility-wide, and a genuine team-lead pathway for experienced nurses.

This is a multi-year staffing need with sustained coverage, not a two-week fill.

• Provide the full range of adult medical-surgical nursing care to patients admitted to the Adult Care Unit.
• Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate individualized, goal-oriented nursing care for adult inpatients.
• Recognize complications of disease processes and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Administer medications and manage controlled substances per facility policy, including secure storage, witnessing, wasting, and documentation.
• Perform clinical procedures: IV access, IV infusions and IV medications, phlebotomy, point-of-care lab testing, EKG, and SVN respiratory treatments.
• Respond to emergency codes and support inter-facility patient transports.
• Document care in the facility electronic health record accurately and on time.
• Coordinate care teams, guide fellow staff on clinical decisions, and complete daily unit quality checks and narcotic logs.
• When assigned as team lead, make patient assignments on the adult med/surg unit based on acuity.
• Teach and provide health education to patients, families, and staff.

• Degree or diploma from a state-approved professional nursing program.
• Current, valid, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
• 36 months of nursing experience, including at least 24 months in adult medical-surgical nursing.
• Comfortable with an electronic health record and standard hospital IT systems.
• Respect for and interest in American Indian culture and community-based care.

12-hour shifts with a 30-minute lunch, seven shifts per two-week period and never seven in a row. Weekends, holidays, and rotating day and night shifts are part of the unit rotation, scheduled by the supervisory nurse based on unit coverage needs. Nurses may rotate into other duty sections as needed to support safe patient care. Thirteen openings on the unit.
