Public Health Nurse
COMPENSATION: $21.74
HOURS: As Needed, Mon-Thurs
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
FUNCTIONThe School Nurse is responsible for organizing and delivering student health care services throughout the district, in accordance with district policies, state and federal regulations.
Qualifications- Certification as a registered nurse.
- Appropriate Arizona licensing.
- Previous successful experience in nursing and/or administration of health care programs in an educational setting; experience and/or knowledge of office management.
- Ability to relate cordially with others.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Administer first aid and emergency care to students and staff members; assume responsibility and authority in the absence of a doctor.
- Monitor student health requirements and prescribed medications.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, materials and equipment necessary to the efficient operation of a school health care program. Assist in budget planning.
- Maintain student health records, emergency information cards, and injury reports.
- Prepare state, district reports.
- Assist with physical examinations and record keeping regarding athletic eligibility.
- Conduct screening services. Identify students with health needs that interfere with effective learning.
- Assist in implementing a program for controlling the spread of communicable diseases. Utilize community health resources.
- Coordinate and/or conduct in-service programs. Teach other staff to recognize and report health deviations.
- Represent the district in professional and community activities related to health care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Stooping, bending, climbing, turning, reaching, as necessary to access storage areas, file cabinets, etc.
- Lifting, maneuvering, placing moderate loads, as in managing records, delivering medical services.
- Traversing the campus, as in gathering or disseminating materials, responding to medical needs.
- Standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, as in record keeping, conducting training, servicing students.
Salary as determined by the Board of Education. Evaluation in accordance with Board policy.
EVALUATIONPerformance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.
