Part Time Police Officer

Job Title: Police Officer - part time Exemption Status/Test: Non-Exempt

Primary

Purpose:

To conduct school-based law enforcement services that helps provide a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, staff and visitors. Foster an efficient and cohesive program that builds positive relationships between law enforcement officers and students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED
• Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
• Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

• Ability to work well with youth and adults
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Ability to de-escalate altercations
• Ability to work under pressure in crisis situations
• Ability to write a comprehensive and accurate law enforcement investigative report
• Ability to utilize two-way radios to communicate with other officers and first responders
• Provide valid Texas Class C driver license and prove insurability to operate District vehicles

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a TCOLE certified peace officer or three (3) years’ experience as a school resource officer (preferred)

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Be familiar with community agencies that offer assistance and services to students and families.
• Confer with school staff and administration to minimize dangerous situations or activities.
• Complete departmental training to maintain proficiency in assigned duties.
• Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible, and serve as a role‑model for all employees and staff, as well as students, parents, community members and guests of the district.
• Patrol district campuses and facilities.
• Be willing to work a variety of shifts with little notice.
• Investigate criminal offenses that occur within the district’s jurisdiction.
• Assist with campus traffic control, monitoring of campus activities as well as after‑hours athletic and other school activities to ensure the safety and welfare of students, staff, and visitors.
• Adhere to district directives, policies and safety standards as they relate to daily duties.
• Complete other duties as assigned by supervisors within line-of-authority.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Prolonged data entry; grasping/squeezing to sort for filing

Environment: Work in a high volume, fast paced office environment; frequent multi-tasking

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
