The Maricopa County Agricultural Center is looking for a skilled Farm Repair Mechanic (Repair Engineer II). This position will be responsible for the preventive care, repairs, and maintenance of farm equipment to maximize the lifespan of the equipment. The role supports trucks and other heavy machinery which transports, prepares, or harvests farm crops, supplies, and/or tools. The incumbent ensures that all equipment being used meets safety standards and regulatory requirements and provides training to equipment operators for safe handling and operation of equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities- Implement established maintenance practices for all facilities, buildings, systems, and machinery, including preventative and predictive maintenance.
- Repair, adjust, and maintain equipment such as agricultural machinery, tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and related facility systems to ensure they function reliably and comply with process specifications.
- Diagnose, maintain, modify, and repair a/c, electrical, hydraulic, engine, and power train systems.
- Fabricate and weld, using methods such as soldering, brazing, oxy/acet, including torch welding, electric arc, and M.I.G. (wire feed).
- Implement a maintenance program and maintain detailed maintenance records so that recurring problems with equipment or facility systems can be identified and addressed.
- Lead mechanic for the Maricopa Agricultural Center.
- Respond to any operating problems, such as emergencies and equipment malfunctions, to minimize disruptions to University facilities, grounds, and equipment operational processes.
- Drive heavy commercial trucks and operate heavy and agricultural equipment in support of facility and grounds needs.
- Implement a system for the shop inventory stock for all facility‑related tools, vehicles, and machinery; keeping shop and facility work areas organized and clean, and ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and accessible.
- Order parts for equipment or vehicles and compare prices from different suppliers, including local stores and online options.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records for equipment and parts, so that recurring issues related to inventory, machinery, or facility systems can be identified and addressed.
- Assist with farm chores as needed, including operations such as working water trucks, graders, backhoes, box scrapers, and forklifts.
- Assist with road maintenance, land/facilities improvements, and special research projects, addressing operating problems as required to ensure equipment and University facilities function reliably and comply with specifications.
- Demonstrated technical skill competence.
- Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
- Ability to accurately maintain written records.
- Skill working safely with large vehicles and machinery.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Basic computer skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Three years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
- Previous farm mechanic experience working with and operating heavy and agricultural equipment.
- Custom combine experience, including properly setting up and operating the combines.
- Experience calibrating equipment.
