Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, maintain school buildings and grounds in an orderly, neat, safe, and operable condition.
Essential Job Functions- Perform tasks to keep school buildings and grounds orderly, neat, and clean (clear and dispose of trash, clean bathrooms and floors, wash windows, dust furniture and fixtures, mow grass, and related tasks).
- Maintain buildings and grounds in safe and operable condition (make minor repairs, clear snow and ice, and related tasks).
- Inspect equipment and facilities and recommend repair or replacement actions to supervisor.
- Regulate HVAC systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Check all building entrances/exits to ensure proper functioning.
- Open and close building and ensure all doors and windows are secured before leaving.
- Maintain motors and other mechanical equipment and ensure scheduled servicing.
- Obtain equipment, tools, and materials required for assigned work.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, materials, equipment, and fuel, and place orders as needed.
- Prepare and maintain records to document work and repairs as requested.

EquipmentUse hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including saws, drills, routers, planers, sanders, jointers, and stationary power equipment.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods, and procedures in the carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades.
- Knowledge of building code conformance standards for carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and electrical installation and repair.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and coordinate work with others.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic for units of measure.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and resolve electrical issues.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted during work.
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment.
- Wear appropriate safety gear.
Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards- Ability to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces.
- Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade.
- Occasional strenuous physical work.
- Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School Diploma.
- Successful experience in building and grounds maintenance and repair.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
