Job Description:
The Mine Maintenance Mechanic – Mobile Equipment is responsible for safely maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing large mobile mining equipment to ensure reliable operation and support production targets. This role applies mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical fundamentals while adhering to safety standards and maintenance best practices.
Position Responsibilities:
- Mobile Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty mobile mining equipment including haul trucks, dozers, hydraulic shovels, motor graders, front-end loaders, and articulated trucks.
- Mechanical & Systems Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems using OEM manuals, schematics, and standard procedures.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, condition monitoring, contamination control, lubrication, and basic air conditioning service.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and move mine equipment to support inspections, servicing, testing, and repairs.
- Shop & Field Work: Perform maintenance tasks in shop and field environments, including the use of small mobile equipment, aerial lifts, and forklifts.
- Safety Compliance: Perform all work in compliance with MSHA regulations, site procedures, confined space, fall protection, and equipment isolation standards.
- Documentation & Systems: Utilize maintenance systems and documentation, including OEM repair manuals and SAP where applicable.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support the development of less experienced maintenance mechanics.
- Troubleshooting & Reliability: Identify equipment issues proactively and contribute to improved equipment reliability and uptime.
- Additional Duties:
Perform other maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty mobile mining equipment
- Minimum of 3 years of experience using Cat ET or similar diagnostic software
- Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical fundamentals
- Experience working with OEM maintenance repair manuals and schematics
- Ability to safely operate and move mine equipment for servicing and testing
- Knowledge of confined space, fall protection, and equipment isolation procedures
- Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write English
Preferred:
- Knowledge of condition monitoring, contamination control, lubrication, and basic air conditioning systems
- Experience operating small mobile equipment, aerial lifts, and forklifts
- SAP maintenance system experience
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior mechanics
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including stairs and uneven surfaces
- Ability to climb ladders and work safely at heights
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to work in hot, cold, and high-humidity environments
- Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, including occasional work in confined spaces
All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty'. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
