Vehicle Technician (EVT) / Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Under general supervision, the Vehicle Technician (EVT) / Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing a wide range of skilled to highly skilled tasks related to minor and major mechanical service and repair of heavy equipment, fire trucks, fire apparatus, aerial equipment, fire rescue vehicles, and miscellaneous fire equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance and repairs on equipment and vehicles, including wheeled vehicles, power generation equipment, and material handling equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on emergency response vehicles.
- Complete repairs and services in accordance with established technical manuals.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair braking systems, suspension, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.
- Read, understand, and follow technical manuals, lubrication orders, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics used during scheduled service intervals to ensure accurate diagnosis and proper repair.
- Perform major repairs by disassembling, cleaning, removing, and installing parts, components, and assemblies.
- Service and diagnose air conditioning system issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support company and departmental goals and objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 21 years of age.
- Certification as an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) with experience in Heavy equipment operation.
- Current Heavy Truck ASE certifications, including T4 (Truck Brakes) and T5 (Truck Suspension and Steering).
- Knowledge of military vehicle and equipment maintenance preferred.
- Valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements.
- Ability to provide a current Motor Vehicle Record.
- Must supply own tools.
- Proficient in the use of PC computers, the internet, and software programs, including Material Handling Equipment (MHE) experience.
- Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and effective organization and time management abilities.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Summary:
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain construction and industrial equipment to keep operations running smoothly. Reporting to the shop supervisor, you will utilize inspection, electrical and diesel engine diagnostics, and mechanical troubleshooting to service machines such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and heavy trucks. Your hands-on expertise with diesel engines, transmissions, air brakes, and OEM parts, coupled with strong customer service and documentation, will ensure equipment reliability, safety, and uptime across multiple job sites.
