General Statement of ResponsibilitiesThe job of "Speech/Language Pathologist" involves assessing students’ speech development level; providing information for program development and student placement; improving students’ performance; and providing information on child development and/or issues on specific students to instructional personnel.
Responsibilities- Assesses students’ communication skills for the purpose of determining their communication needs and developing recommendations.
- Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals to provide requested information, develop plans for services and/or make recommendations.
- Facilitates meetings such as IEP conferences, parent meetings, and in‑services for developing plans or providing information regarding students’ functional goals.
- Instructs students for implementation of goals to remediate speech and language deficits.
- Prepares documentation such as evaluations, observations, progress notes, and contacts with parents, teachers and outside professionals to provide written support, develop recommendations, and convey information.
- Provides presentations on topics related to professional expertise to communicate information and gain feedback.
- Researches resources and methods (intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools, community resources) to determine appropriate approach for students’ services.
- Screen students to determine the need for further individualized assessment.
- Assists other personnel as required to support them in completing work activities.
- Participates in meetings (parent conferences, in‑service training, site meetings) to receive and/or provide information and meet credential requirements.
- Apply assessment instruments, interpret test data and communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of assessment instruments, relevant education codes, state and district policies.
- Ability to complete case studies and develop IEPs, work independently, be flexible, work under time constraints, and collaborate with staff, parents, students and community.
- Physical abilities: lifting, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, visual acuity, and ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Licensure for Speech Therapy (Arizona Department of Education Certificate).
- Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Prior job experience preferred.
- Physical capability to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crawl, reach, lift up to 50 lbs, and meet sensory requirements.
