Distinguishing Features

Provide daily staffing of the Crisis Response Unit, working directly with the Crisis Response Team Program Manager to develop and improve services. Respond to calls for assistance as needed, immediately assisting victims of traumatic events such as fires, death or serious injury. Assist Police Officers, Firefighters and Medical personnel by supporting family members on scene, allowing First Responders to focus on the incident.

Maintain motor vehicle equipment and response gear, and assist the Manager with developing, maintaining, and enhancing program policies and procedures. Coordinate and train volunteers, perform community outreach regarding crisis interventions, program offerings, and supporting organizations.

Essential Functions
  • Provide mobile crisis intervention techniques during traumatic events. Respond to crisis calls from Police/Fire/EMS, assess the family’s needs, and facilitate appropriate resources. Coordinate between emergency personnel, hospital staff, and family members as needed.
  • Provide follow‑up to community members and visitors as needed, encouraging the use of community resources. This may involve one interaction or several depending on the original nature of the event.
  • Operate a 15‑passenger Crisis Response Van, associated radio and mobile communications equipment, and computer. Maintain vehicle and equipment through daily checks/inspections, vehicle fluids, cleaning, and ensuring it is stocked with resources (water, ice, snacks, emergency clothing, boxes, printed materials, etc.).
  • Complete incident reports and maintain appropriate records and confidentiality within the Records Management System (RMS).
  • Monitor and guide volunteers and student interns with job performance and written materials. Co‑facilitate training sessions for volunteers as needed.
  • Attend public and community events and provide information and brochures about the CRT Program (public education). Participate in ongoing training and certification for self and volunteers.
Required Knowledge, Skill and Ability
  • Exercise sound judgment.

  • Multi‑task and maintain integrity at all times.
  • Offer support to individuals during traumatic moments and manage extremely stressful situations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees, community members, officials, and the general public.
  • Perform moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Operate within Tribal and Departmental standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Meet deadlines, analyze challenges, and propose improvements to program procedures and processes.
  • Maintain all physical conditioning requirements of the position; agree to maintain a drug‑free workplace.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree in Behavioral Health or Human Services and three (3) years experience in a behavioral health related role or within the Crisis Response Field.
  • Or High School diploma or GED and five (5) years experience in a behavioral health related role or within the Crisis Response Field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health or Human Services preferred.
Additional Requirements
  • Pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and continue to maintain throughout duration of employment.
  • First Aid and CPR must be obtained within six (6) months from hire – provided by Department.
  • Work after hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current driving record for the past 39 months; proof of driving record must be submitted with application and not be more than 60 days old.
  • Compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act for positions that involve regular contact with community children or elderly.

Non‑supervisory, hourly position. Reports to Fire Chief or designee.
