Job Responsibilities
Under immediate supervision, performs lifeguard duties at a municipal beach or swimming pool, teaches beginning and advanced swimming instruction, monitors swimmers, provides emergency assistance when needed, cleans and maintains the pool and pool area—including the filtration system—transports youth and adults, and performs related duties as required. Typical tasks include rescuing persons who are in danger of drowning, acting as a general lookout at assigned stations, administering first aid in emergency situations arising under a lifeguard’s jurisdiction, patrolling unguarded beach areas, checking for violations of beach regulations, administering disciplinary measures designed to enforce rules and regulations, conducting group and individual swimming lessons, assisting in conducting swimming meets and special aquatic programs, removing debris and other physical hazards from beach and swimming areas, roping off swimming areas, posting storm warnings to swimmers, attending institutes, special lectures, and staff meetings, reporting accidents, making reports and keeping records when necessary, supervising, maintaining, and using life‑saving equipment, assisting in finding, restoring or reporting lost articles, dealing with large numbers of people and the problems arising at beaches and pools, and performing such other tasks as may be assigned.
Minimum QualificationsA High School Diploma or GED is required. The equivalent of two summers of experience in outdoor and indoor pools in a municipal setting is required. Must possess current certifications for American Red Cross Lifeguarding Training and First Aid as well as CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must have a valid Government —State of Ohio Driver's License or State . (The Diploma or GED and the Driver's License are not required for those persons under the age of 18 who are hired as Seasonal Lifeguards.)
QualificationsA High School Diploma or GED is required. The equivalent of two summers of experience in outdoor and indoor pools in a municipal setting is required. Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid certifications. Lifeguard Instructor LGI and Water Safety Instructor are preferred. CPO or AFO required within one year of hire.
Must have a valid Government —State of Ohio Driver's License or State . (The Diploma or GED and the Driver's License are not required for those people under the age of 18 who are hired as Seasonal Lifeguards.)
