Location: Golden Valley

Overview

Construct and maintain county roads within Mohave County highways, regularly maintained roads, or tertiary maintained roads, and to provide a safe and economical transportation system for our citizens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel throughout the county while operating a county vehicle in adverse traffic conditions, weather, terrain, and altitudes.
  • Work outdoors performing moderate to strenuous manual labor in varying weather conditions, including strong winds, extreme heat, and extreme cold temperatures.
  • Expose to exhaust and chemical fumes, oil, grease, hazardous materials, and loud noises from equipment.
  • Move and/or lift 25 lbs up to 100 lbs or more while operating heavy equipment. Spend equal amounts of time standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, bending, climbing ladders, and confined spaces.
Working Hours
  • Work 4 ten‑hour shifts.
  • Monday‑Thursday 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM (summer hours)
  • Monday‑Thursday 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (winter hours)
  • Occasional overtime for call‑outs assisting the Sheriff’s Office with traffic closures and weather‑related events.
  • Travel is occasional to assist crews in other areas of Mohave County.
  • County will cover room costs and per diem if overnight stay(s) are required.
Hourly Rate of Pay

$18.22 – $22.41 (Step 1 –
8)

Road Maintenance Tasks
  • Pothole Repair – Patch and repair damaged pavement areas.
  • Shoulder Maintenance – Maintain roadway shoulders for safety.
  • Construction Maintenance – Support construction‑related road work.
  • Crack Seal & Chip Seal – Treat approximately 90–100 miles of paved roadway each fiscal year.
  • Soil Stabilization – Improve soil structure on roadways.
  • Dirt Road Grading – Grade and maintain unpaved roads.
  • Sweeping – Clear debris from roadways and shoulders.
  • Culvert & Cattle Guard Cleanup – Maintain drainage and livestock crossings.
  • Guardrail Repair – Repair and maintain roadside guardrails.
  • Right‑of‑Way Weed Control – Remove vegetation and maintain safe rights‑of‑way.
  • Snow Removal – Clear snow and maintain safe winter travel routes.

Job Specific Requirements
  • Must pass drug screen post offer.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed.
  • Must possess the ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License within a six‑month period from hire date.
  • Must provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered in meeting the minimum requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Road maintenance and repair methods.
  • Hand tools, operation and servicing of light and medium equipment utilized in the maintenance and repair of roads.
  • Traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in equipment operation such as Arizona’s Blue Stake law.
  • Safety hazards, practices and procedures related to road maintenance and repair work and the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Use and care of equipment, tools, and materials used in road maintenance and repair activities.
  • Safe, effective operation and servicing of light to medium equipment such as medium tandem axle truck; all front end loaders; all rollers; all sweepers; water truck; and other related medium equipment; and light single axle truck; tractor/mower; sweeper; rubber tire roller; and other related light equipment.
  • Effectively service, maintain, and operate equipment in accordance with standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Drive a manual shift transmission.
  • Learn safe, effective operation of light to heavy equipment.
