Job Title
Coconino County Public Works is seeking to fill two Operator positions. Both positions are located in Williams. Under limited supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the operation of various mechanical equipment; performs related work as assigned.
Job DescriptionOPERATOR TRAINEE
Typical duties include learning to operate various types of mechanical equipment such as compressors, tampers and asphalt cutters, passing and obtaining Traffic Control certification, completing MSHA training and obtaining certification, taking steps to obtain Class A Unrestricted with Tanker endorsement Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment, learning to perform inspection and maintenance of equipment, buildings, as well as paved and unpaved roadways, learning to perform drainage maintenance, conducting snow plowing operations, completing Blue Stake training, completing electrical hazard training, attending all required safety training, participating in construction/maintenance projects, being assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs, responding to emergency situations, and working various 12-hour snow shifts.
LEVEL I - OPERATOR
Typical duties include performing the duties of Operator Trainee, operating various mechanical equipment.
LEVEL II - OPERATOR
Typical duties include performing the duties of Level I, operating a motor grader for gravel road grading and during snow removal operations within one year.
Minimum QualificationsOPERATOR TRAINEE
Any combination of education, training or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Additional requirements include having a valid driver's license, obtaining an Arizona driver's license within 30 calendar days of hire, passing a pre-employment drug screening, obtaining a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within one year of hire, and passing an internal Public Works equipment operation test.
LEVEL I - OPERATOR
Two years of experience operating equipment appropriate to position under field conditions or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Additional requirements include obtaining an Arizona driver's license by date of hire, passing a pre-employment drug screening, obtaining an Arizona CDL Class B with Tanker Endorsement at the time of hire, obtaining a valid Arizona CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement within six months of hire, acquiring Flagging certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and MSHA certification within the first year, and completing Block One equipment training within one year.
LEVEL II - OPERATOR
Three years of experience operating equipment appropriate to position under field conditions or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Additional requirements include obtaining an Arizona driver's license by date of hire, passing a pre-employment drug screening, obtaining an Arizona CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement, acquiring Flagging certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and MSHA certification within the first year, completing Block One and Two equipment training within one year, and operating a motor grader for gravel road grading and during snow removal operations within one year.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, procedures and practices used in construction or maintenance operations. Skill in operation of assigned equipment under field conditions, use of hand and power tools. Ability to adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances, work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays, effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds, work extended hours in a variety of weather conditions, recognize hazardous conditions and react appropriately, prepare and maintain records and reports, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public, work safely and support the culture of workplace safety, follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers' service specifications, communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
