Overview
The Supply Chain Manager at GAF is responsible for planning and managing the distribution strategy for plant or site operations. This includes ensuring safety, managing warehouse and shipping activities, inventory control, purchasing, production planning, raw material ordering, receiving and transportation management. The role also leads the staffing and development of supply chain employees and works closely with corporate partners to achieve cost, service and volume goals.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the supply chain team to meet or exceed site safety goals and foster a culture of safety in shipping, warehousing and fleet operations.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive distribution strategy for products shipped from and manufactured at the site.
- Reduce supply chain related costs through effective leadership and management of plant resources.
- Identify and capture cost savings opportunities by collaborating with corporate purchasing, planning, logistics and transportation, sales, accounting, and customer care.
- Ensure service reliability and volume goals are met through production scheduling, raw material ordering, and supply chain execution.
- Actively pursue “Shipper of Choice” status and develop strategies to respond to demand spikes caused by promotions, seasonal builds and weather events.
- Maintain quality standards for inbound raw materials and outbound finished goods, and ensure supplier assessments meet quality and delivery requirements.
- Monitor and report weekly metrics, conduct self‑audits, and maintain KPIs related to labor cost and supply chain efficiency.
- Identify process failures, develop continuous improvement plans and communicate progress.
- Provide training and coaching to logistics employees and develop staffing plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or Distribution Operations Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in high‑volume manufacturing, distribution, purchasing, production planning or transportation, or a GED with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Advanced organizational, analytical, and project‑management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and problem‑identification skills.
- Leadership experience, ability to direct work of others, and strong coaching ability.
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements, Google Suite, ERP systems (SAP), warehouse and inventory management systems (FIFO, LIFO, WIP), transportation management systems (TMS) and standard manufacturing concepts.
- Physical ability to perform standard warehouse tasks including lifting, reaching and standing for long periods.
