Position Summary

Provides instruction aligned with Kansas College and Career Ready Standards (KCCRS) for Science and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) framework. The teacher engages students in inquiry-based learning, laboratory investigations, and hands‑on activities that promote scientific thinking, problem solving, and real‑world application. This position supports a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and student success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction aligned to KCCRS and district curriculum for 8th Grade Science.
  • Implement inquiry‑based lessons, hands‑on labs, and scientific investigations that promote critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Teach physical, life, and earth/space science concepts appropriate for the 8th grade level.
  • Ensure and enforce proper lab safety procedures and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Assess student learning using district‑approved assessments and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Provide targeted interventions for students requiring additional support and enrichment for advanced learners.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress, grades, and attendance.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to students and families regarding academic performance and growth.
  • Use data to drive instructional decisions and participate in Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes.
  • Incorporate technology into instruction using district‑approved platforms and tools.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, structured, and conducive to learning.
  • Collaborate with grade‑level teams, science department staff, and support personnel to align instruction and coordinate student support.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with implementing accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, parent‑teacher conferences, and school‑wide initiatives as required.
  • Uphold district policies, Kansas Department of Education (KSDE) regulations, and the educator's code of conduct.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the school Principal.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Valid Kansas Teaching License with an approved Middle School Science endorsement, or eligibility for such licensure.
  • Demonstrating knowledge in science instruction, laboratory procedures, and child development.
  • Successful completion of required background check and employment screenings.
