Position Title
Student Assistant Team Member
Position SummaryTo support students and teachers in an instructional classroom setting.
Reports ToSchool Principal & Assigned Classroom Teacher
Work ScheduleNine-month agreement;
Monday through Friday during designated school hours on days when students are in session.
- Assist teachers in the delivery of instructional activities in whole group, small group, and one-on-one settings.
- Provide individualized support to students to reinforce learning concepts and skills introduced by the classroom teacher.
- Adapt instructional materials as directed to meet student needs.
- Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during school-related activities.
- Encourage appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement and adherence to school rules.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist with implementing accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualize Education Programs (IEPs).
- Participate in professional development and training sessions as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by classroom teacher or school Principal.
Knowledge of:
- Basic principles of child development and learning styles.
- School rules, regulations, procedures, and safety practices.
- Basic computer applications.
Skills in:
- Provide academic, social, and behavioral support to students.
- Following and reinforcing teacher-directed instruction.
- Using instructional technology and equipment to support learning.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written, with students, staff, and parents.
Ability to:
- Work patiently, positively, and respectfully with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Supervise groups of students in both structured and unstructured settings.
- Remain calm and use sound judgement in stressful situations.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Adapt to changing student needs, classroom dynamics, and assignments.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with teachers, administrators, staff, and parents.
- Model appropriate behavior and serve as a positive role model for students.
- Work is performed primarily in the classroom environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling (25-50 lbs.).
- Ability to sit on the floor, kneel, or move quickly to support students in classroom and playground activities.
- Exposure to typical childhood illnesses and minor injuries in a school environment.
- Requires regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work flexible assignments as directed.
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Associates degree or 48-hours of college credit (preferred)
