Position Title: Elementary Music Teacher

Locations: Jefferson & C4 Elementary

Foster student growth in creativity, artistic expression, appreciation, and understanding of visual arts through drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and other age-appropriate art activities. This position contributes to the overall educational program by promoting creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, cultural awareness, and lifelong appreciation of the visual arts.

• Teach art skills including drawing, painting, sculpture, design, art appreciation, art history, and exploration of various artistic media to elementary students.
• Plan and implement a balanced art program that maximizes instructional time, student engagement, creativity, and artistic exploration.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction to meet diverse student needs and encourage the development of individual artistic skills.
• Select and utilize a variety of age-appropriate and skill-appropriate artistic media, materials, techniques, and resources in alignment with state standards.
• Introduce students to a variety of artists, artistic styles, cultures, and traditions to develop an understanding and appreciation of diverse forms of artistic expression.
• Evaluate and document student growth, artistic development, understanding, and application of art concepts and techniques.
• Maintain responsibility for school-owned art equipment, materials, and supplies, including proper storage, inventory, maintenance, and arranging for repairs as necessary.
• Collaborate with staff and administration to plan and provide art displays, exhibitions, projects, and activities for assemblies, performances, special events, and school-wide initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress, program goals, and expectations.
• Participate in the selection of instructional resources and the requisitioning and ordering of art materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and accessible classroom environment appropriate for the use of art materials, tools, and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned by school Principal, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, or Superintendent.

Knowledge of:

• Visual art concepts, techniques, processes, and artistic practices.
• Understanding of child development and age-appropriate instructional strategies for PreK-5 students.
• Familiarity with Kansas State Standards for Visual Arts Education.
• Awareness of diverse artists, artistic traditions, styles, cultures, and forms of artistic expression.
• Classroom management strategies and best practices for student engagement.
• Assessment methods to evaluate artistic growth, creative development, and student understanding.
• Appropriate procedures for the safe use, storage, and disposal of art materials and equipment.

• Proficiency in a variety of visual art media, techniques, and processes.
• Ability to plan, organize, and deliver engaging art instruction.
• Adapting lessons for diverse learners and differentiating instruction.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Competence in evaluating student progress and providing constructive feedback.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with students, families and staff.
• Technological skills for integrating digital tools and resources into art instruction.

• Foster an inclusive, positive, and creative classroom environment.
• Motivate and inspire students to develop their individual artistic abilities and creative expression.
• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student success.

State of Kansas Teacher License with an endorsement in Art Education (PreK-12)
