The Arkansas City Police Department serves approximately 12,000 residents in Arkansas City, Kansas with a team of 27 full-time police officers and 4 full-time support staff. Patrol officers work 12-hour shifts with day-to-night rotations every four months, providing consistent coverage across the community. The department offers specialized assignments such as Investigations, School Resource Officer, Crisis Intervention Officer, regional S.W.A.T. team, bicycle patrol, and field training.

This is a full-time, on-site Police Officer role located in Arkansas City, KS. The Police Officer is responsible for patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for service, enforcing state and local laws, and maintaining public safety. Daily tasks include conducting traffic stops, preparing incident and arrest reports, collecting and securing evidence, and participating in criminal investigations. The role involves engaging with community members, providing assistance during emergencies, and participating in crime prevention and community outreach activities.

Officers may be assigned to specialized units or collateral duties based on departmental needs, training, and experience.

• Strong foundation in law enforcement practices, including experience or training as Police Officers and familiarity with Police procedures.
• Ability to collect, preserve, and document Evidence according to legal standards and departmental policy.
• Knowledge of Criminal Investigations, including interviewing, report writing, and working with investigative units.
• Understanding of Law Enforcement principles, applicable laws, and constitutional rights.
• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including clear report writing.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Physical fitness sufficient to perform patrol duties, respond to emergencies, and handle potentially strenuous activities.
• Eligibility to meet state certification requirements for law enforcement officers in Kansas.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Willingness to undergo background checks, psychological evaluation, and medical screening as required.
