SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER- The teacher is responsible for providing meaningful instruction designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual student growth, and creating and maintaining an environment conducive to learning.
- The Elementary Special Education Teacher is responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive educational environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with disabilities. This role includes developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and specialists, and utilizing evidence‑based strategies to address diverse learning needs.

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Arkansas teaching license for Special Education
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- An understanding of teaching and the duties of a teacher as an educational leader

- Instruction and Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction aligned with state standards and IEP goals.
- Utilize assistive technology, specialized instructional strategies, and accommodations to support student learning.
- Assessment and Monitoring:
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and document progress toward IEP goals.
- Participate in evaluation processes to determine eligibility for special education services.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co‑teaching opportunities.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements.
- Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists) to deliver comprehensive support.
- Behavior Management and Social‑Emotional Support:
- Implement positive behavior support strategies to foster a safe and productive learning environment.
- Address social‑emotional needs by integrating social skills instruction and providing counseling support as appropriate.
- Compliance and Professional Development:
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations governing special education.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and legal requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policies and legal standards.
- Take steps to counteract prejudices based on race, religion, gender, age, disabilities, or personal attributes to foster a learning community, which respects all participants.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, and harassment as directed by Board of Education policy.
- Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher.
- Provide and accept constructive criticism for improvement of teaching and learning.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with parents and co‑workers to support the mission of the school district.
- Maintain professional relationships with students.
- Prepare students for local and state assessments.
- Respond to administrative requests promptly.
- Comply with all federal and state laws and district policies.
- Comply with regulations as to hours of arrival and departure from school.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
