PRIMARY PURPOSE
To provide research-based, intensive, and multisensory structured language therapy to students identified with dyslexia or related disorders. The CALT will implement specialized intervention programs to improve student literacy outcomes and ensure district compliance with the Arkansas Dyslexia Mandates.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Education (Master's in Reading or Special Education preferred).
Licensure:
Valid Arkansas Teacher License.
Certification:
Must hold or be working toward an ADE Dyslexia Endorsement or certification as a Dyslexia Therapist (e.g., CALT or similar state-approved training).
Expertise:
Fluent in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process and multisensory, structured literacy ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and orthography.
Administer and interpret informal and formal assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional pace/strategy.
Serve as a subject matter expert in Section 504 and IEP meetings, providing data-driven recommendations for goals and accommodations.
Collaborates with classroom teachers to implement Science of Reading (SoR) strategies and classroom-based accommodations.
Maintain meticulous records of therapy hours and student progress as required by the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) and the ADE.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
In-depth knowledge of Arkansas state laws regarding dyslexia and the Science of Reading.
Ability to communicate complex screening results to parents and educators clearly and empathetically.
Proficiency in data management systems used for tracking student progress.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
Ability to interpret complex federal and state regulations; a high-stress environment during active testing windows and federal monitoring cycles; and maintain strict confidentiality regarding student data and test security.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to sit, walk, and talk or hear; ability to transport testing materials (lifting up to 25 lbs) to various school sites; frequent travel between district campuses and occasional travel to state-level meetings.
Environmental Demands:
Office environment with frequent visits to school sites; standard office hours with occasional evening meetings for parent engagement or Board reports.
