Essential Functions of the Position

- Administer the daily requirements of the Child Development Center.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising the activities and staff of the Child Development Center.
- Administer the requirements and maintain all state, local, and federal categorical grant programs, prepare applications for child care funding, and manage early child care and education programs.
- Supervise and coordinate the laboratory experience of child‑development students in a developmentally appropriate demonstration site for preschool and toddler‑age children.
- Develop program goals for children, parents, and students.
- Enrol children, maintain appropriate records on children, staff, and students in compliance with District requirements, licensing regulations, and other legal and regulatory provisions.
- Communicate with parents, staff, and administrators related to Center operations and student progress; discuss issues or concerns with parents.
- Train, supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of the Center staff; coordinate and support relationships for inclusion with collaborating on‑site agencies.
- Coordinate and conduct staff meetings and in‑service training.
- Ensure availability of appropriate materials and equipment for staff and children’s use.
- Assure maintenance of a physical environment that conforms to the State Department of Social Services licensing standards of health and safety.
- Conduct Center inspections to assure compliance.
- Supervise the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
- Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
- Participate in institutional activities including staff development; meet regularly with discipline/division peers; serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
- Participate on community advisory committees related to early care and education initiatives.
- Prepare grant proposals for external funding to support Center operations.
- Teach developmental and transfer‑level Child Development courses as assigned; teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large‑group instruction classes as needed.
- Learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties efficiently, organized, and timely.
- Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practice within the classroom.
- Master’s in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above and master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
