Overview

American Indian Studies Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) – Fresno City College

Successful candidates will be equity‑minded leaders committed to student success through collaboration with faculty, classified staff, administration, students, and community partners to close equity gaps.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a part‑time schedule of American Indian Studies courses as assigned.
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including innovative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Apply effective teaching methods and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, and other methods in keeping with course objectives.
  • Provide course syllabi to students.
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including as requested.
  • Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • One of the following:
    • Master’s degree in Native American/American Indian Studies.
    • Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies and Bachelor’s degree in Native American/American Indian Studies.
    • Valid California Community College Credential.
    • Equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).
  • Petition for equivalency if degrees do not match exact titles listed.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other minoritized student populations.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better engage and support minoritized students.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with students outside instruction hours for extracurricular activities and events.
  • Related professional experience.
  • Experience with students of diverse backgrounds, disabilities, and traditionally underrepresented populations.
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse student populations.
  • Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need students.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support and student success.
  • Proficiency with computer technologies used in high‑quality instruction.
  • Effective communication skills with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of decolonial and antiracist teaching methodologies and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary classification placements will be based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
