Geography Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool)
Fresno City College invites applications for a part‑time geography instructor position.
Responsibilities- Teach a part‑time schedule of geography courses as assigned;
- Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate innovative technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats;
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
- Employ effective teaching methods aligned with the institution‑approved curriculum outlines;
- Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, and other assessment tools in keeping with course objectives;
- Provide course syllabi to students;
- Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
- Submit all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner;
- Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times as needed;
- Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and how these factors relate to equity‑minded practice in the classroom;
- Master’s degree in geography, or bachelor’s in geography and master’s in geology, history, meteorology or oceanography, or a valid California Community College Credential, or the equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency required).

Desirable Qualifications- Experience and skill incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all responsibilities;
- Recent experience working with underrepresented student populations and an understanding of how historical exclusion shapes participation and outcomes;
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Professional experience in facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds;
- Ability to work with computers and other technologies used for high‑quality instruction and student support;
- Effective communication with students and staff;
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
- Knowledge of the community college’s mission and goals.
- Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule;
- All salary classifications on the salary schedule will be based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications;
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
This position is part of a continuous recruitment pool; applications will be reviewed by members of the hiring department when vacancies arise. The position has no closing date and will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Candidates will remain on file for 18 months; after that a new application will be required if they are not interviewed or selected.
