Dental Hygiene Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) – Fresno City College

This posting establishes an applicant pool for part-time faculty positions. Applications will be reviewed by the hiring department when vacancies arise. There is no closing date, and the position will remain open for 18 months. Candidates may withdraw their application at any time.

• Teach a part-time schedule of Dental Hygiene courses as assigned.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record.
• Evaluate student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in keeping with course objectives.
• Provide course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
• Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Dental Hygiene or a related field.
• Current license in California as a dental hygienist or immediate eligibility to obtain a California license.
• Certification in administration of local anesthesia, nitrous oxide sedation, and the performance of soft tissue management (gingival curettage).
• Minimum of two years of direct patient care within the previous five years with no disciplinary action.
• Minimum of one year teaching experience in an accredited dental hygiene program.
• Current documented background in clinical and educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments, as required by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.

• Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
• Recent experience working with underrepresented student populations and sensitivity to cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students.
• Collaboration with faculty and staff to enhance curriculum and student success.
• Proficiency with computers and instructional technologies.
• Effective communication with students and staff.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
• Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.

• Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• Salary classification based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
• Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.
