Job Summary:

Shirley High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Agriculture Teacher to lead our Agricultural Education program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for student success in the classroom, in the shop, and in the show ring. This position emphasizes animal science with a strong focus on student livestock exhibition, welding, and agricultural mechanics. The teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging, hands-on instruction in line with Arkansas state standards and FFA expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Teach courses in animal science, ag mechanics, welding, and other agriculture-related subjects.

* Supervise and mentor students in livestock projects and competitive animal showing at county, district, and state levels.

* Manage the school's ag mechanics and welding labs, ensuring safety and maintenance of equipment.

* Develop and oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects.

* Serve as FFA advisor; organize and prepare students for Career Development Events (CDEs), Leadership Development Events (LDEs), and community involvement.

* Coordinate with local industry partners for field trips, guest speakers, and work-based learning opportunities.

* Maintain accurate records of student progress, shop safety, and livestock care schedules.

* Actively participate in professional development and stay current on best practices in agriculture education.

* Collaborate with fellow staff and administration to support student achievement and program growth.

Qualifications:

* Valid Arkansas Teaching License with certification in Agriculture Education (or eligibility to obtain).

* Strong background in animal science, livestock showing, welding, and ag mechanics.

* Experience in managing an ag shop and handling livestock projects is preferred.

* Knowledge of FFA programs and regulations.

* Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.

* Passion for student development both academically and through FFA leadership.

Preferred

Skills:

* Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding.

* Experience with small engine repair, construction, and other ag mechanics fields.

* Knowledge of livestock nutrition, care, and exhibition practices.

* Ability to transport students and animals to events (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
