Position Overview

Mountainburg Public Schools is seeking a student-focused, innovative educator to serve as the Gifted and Talented (GT) Coordinator. This position is responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive K–12 gifted program that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of identified students while ensuring full compliance with Arkansas Department of Education guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of the unique academic and social-emotional needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Coordinate and implement the district's GT program, including student identification, placement, and progress monitoring.
  • Develop and support a rigorous, engaging curriculum aligned with gifted best practices.
  • Provide direct instruction to gifted students through pull-out services (grades 3–5) and enrichment opportunities (K–2 and other levels as applicable).
  • Create a learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and exploration of student interests.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant program records in accordance with Arkansas GT Rules and Regulations.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support differentiation and enrichment within the general classroom.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and stakeholders regarding student progress and program goals.
  • Lead and provide professional development related to gifted education for district staff.
  • Coordinate student applications and recommendations for summer programs, competitions, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning, including state and national GT conferences.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the GT program within the school and community.
Qualifications
  • Valid Arkansas teaching license required.
  • Gifted and Talented (GT) certification (K–12) required or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Strong knowledge of gifted education best practices, curriculum development, and student identification processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Clear a Background Check through the Arkansas Department of Education state and federal criminal records checks
  • Clear a Central Registry Check through the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Central Registry system, a division of the Arkansas Department of Human Services
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching or coordinating a gifted and talented program.
  • Experience with student data analysis and program compliance.
  • Background in differentiated instruction and enrichment strategies.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary:
    Starting salary for Bachelor's degree is $50,000. Salary will be based on the 2026-27 certified pay schedule. The annual salary is divided into 12 installments, so you receive a steady income over the contract year. Additional compensation is available for additional duties including activity sponsorship, coaching, tutoring, or advanced degrees. See salary schedule.
  • Insurance:
    The District offers an excellent benefits package through AR Benefits Health Advantage plan options, with the option to purchase health care, dental, vision, and disability income insurance packages.   • Retirement:

  • Leave:
    Sick leave is given at a rate of one day per month, with 10 days for a 190 contract, plus 2 days of personal leave. Personal leave may accumulate up to five days which then rolls over to sick leave. A sick leave donation bank is available.
