  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Completed at least 60 hours of college credit or
  • Passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment or
  • Earned the CDA Credential

Job Description

This position supports the PreK Lead Teacher in providing instruction and supervision designed to prepare students for current and future success. The PreK Paraprofessional assists in implementing developmentally appropriate activities, maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment, and supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of young children.

Essential Functions Curriculum and Instruction
  • Implements instructional activities with students as directed by the teacher and/or building principal.
  • Assumes responsibility for being prepared to carry out instructional duties as prescribed by the teacher.
  • Supports students during whole group, small group, and individual instruction.
  • Assists students with understanding and completing learning tasks.
  • Encourages student participation and engagement in classroom activities.
  • Implements behavior management techniques as directed by the teacher or supervisor while treating all students with dignity and respect.
  • Assists students in establishing and maintaining appropriate behavior to promote an effective learning environment.
  • Helps prepare instructional materials and classroom resources as directed.
  • Assists with the maintenance and organization of the classroom environment.
  • Provides support with the physical management of students, including lifting when required.
Professionalism
  • Participates in a minimum of 30 hours of prescribed professional development programs and activities each year.
  • Attends training sessions, staffings, and meetings as directed by the building principal or administration.
  • Adheres to confidentiality policies and practices, including those related to students served under IDEA.
  • Follows all district policies, including Greenbrier School Board policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Works collaboratively as a team member with teachers, staff, and administration.
  • Serves on building-level committees as assigned.
  • Demonstrates professionalism through effective communication and collaboration with staff and students.

  • Reports incidents (e.g., safety concerns, suspected abuse, bullying, or other violations) to appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations and seeks assistance when necessary.
  • Demonstrates alignment with school philosophy, standards, and goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, building principal, or district administration.
