Essential Functions of PositionAt Fresno City College we value the ability to serve students from a broad range of cultural heritages, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, abilities, and orientations. The successful candidate will be an equity‑minded leader committed to student success achieved through collaboration with faculty, staff, administration, students and community partners.
- Teach a part‑time schedule of English courses as assigned.
- Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate innovative and creative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines.
- Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in keeping with course objectives.
- Provide course syllabi to students.
- Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
- Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
- Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and an understanding of equity‑minded practice within the classroom. Additionally:
- Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition; or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above and Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
- Recent experience working with underrepresented students and understanding how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes.
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional practice to engage racially minoritized students.
- Related professional experience in higher education.
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
- Ability to facilitate multicultural and cross‑cultural communication.
- Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need students.
- Collaborative ability with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success.
- Competence with computers and instructional technologies.
- Effective communication with students and staff.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
- Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
- Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary classification placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
