Position: Philosophy Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Fresno City College
Location: College City

Philosophy Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) – Fresno City College

Position available through continuous recruitment. Applications will be reviewed when vacancies arise.

Essential Functions of Position
  • Teach a part‑time schedule of Philosophy courses as assigned.
  • Utilize a variety of pedagogies and integrate technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Apply effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum outlines.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses in line with course objectives.
  • Provide course syllabi to students.
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including as needed.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Master’s degree in Philosophy; OR Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Master’s in Humanities or Religious Studies; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR equivalent education and/or experience (requiring an equivalency).
  • Must petition for equivalency if degrees do not match exactly as stated.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better engage racially minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Experience with traditionally underrepresented student populations and the ability to support them across sociocultural diversities.
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds.
  • Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need community college students.
  • Demonstrated collaborative ability with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student learning support.
  • Proficiency with computers and technologies used in high‑quality instruction.
  • Effective communication skills with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary classifications will be based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
Selection Procedure

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Starting dates may vary. The position will remain on file for 18 months; if not interviewed or selected within that period, a new application will be required.
