JOB SUMMARY:

Provide intensive intervention services to students at the Tier II and Tier III intervention levels; collect RtI; consult with regular teachers about reading strategies and interventions that are systematic, multisensory, and evidence-based. Conduct dyslexia evaluations; provide direct and indirect services to students with characteristics of dyslexia; complete required paperwork.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches district approved curriculum based on state frameworks and standards.
  • Prepares for assigned classes, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt and differentiate the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic growth through teacher-made tests, standardized tests, checklists, observations, and other performance assessments; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and develops strategies to support those needs.
  • Creates a safe and orderly classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes during the instructional day and extended hours when necessary.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
  • Collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Supports and participates in extra-curricular activities, such as PTO, Family Nights, sporting and cultural events, etc.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to maintain a safe and orderly environment to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Communicates regularly with various internal and external publics to develop and maintain a positive school/community relationship.
  • Maintains confidentiality and observes professional ethics.
  • Assist in the analysis of student data on state and local assessments.
  • Assist teachers in the development of intervention plans to meet individual student needs.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervises Title I teacher assistants and students.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or

    EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Emphasis on teaching Reading.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Hold a valid Arkansas teaching license. Meets requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher designation, is applicable to the teaching assignment.

    LANGUAGE

    SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, administrators, staff, and general public.

    MATHEMATICAL

    SKILLS:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, table, or schedule form.

    OTHER

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives, the needs and abilities of students to who assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
