Special Education Aide

Primary Function:
To aide and assist both the teacher and students in the self-contained special education classroom.

Illustration of responsibilities and key job duties:

• To work with individual students on classroom assignments.
• To work with students in small groups on various subjects.
• To assist the teacher with daily operations in the classroom.
• Accompany students to classes or activities outside of the special education classroom if deemed necessary according to a child's IEP and/or behavior plan.
• To perform duties as assigned by the teacher or administrators.
• Serve the students in the classroom in whatever capacity deemed appropriate to contribute to the management of the classroom and assist the teacher.
• Meet the personal care needs of specific students as appropriate
• Heavy lifting may be involved.
• The employee may be asked to perform other duties if deemed necessary and reasonable to support the orderly operations of the Special Education Self-Contained classroom.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Assist with student transfers, positioning, mobility, and use of adaptive equipment, as needed.
• Implement IEP accommodations, instructional supports, behavior plans, and classroom routines under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Maintain student confidentiality and follow district policies and procedures related to special education.

* Must have 60 college hours or pass the Parapro Praxis.
