Description

The Department of Political Science at Fordham University invites applications for a tenure-track position in urban politics beginning in the Fall of 2027 at the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, New York. We are looking for scholars who teach and conduct research on cities within the framework of the comparative politics subfield. We welcome candidates who can also teach American urban contexts, in particular New York City, from a comparative perspective.

The successful candidate should be willing to contribute to teaching and intellectual leadership in Fordham's many interdisciplinary programs, such as International Studies, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, International Political and Economic Development, and especially the Urban Studies Program and its curriculum at the undergraduate and master’s level. Addressing contemporary global policy challenges such as democratic resilience, technology and innovation, economic justice, or climate change and sustainable development across different national contexts would be desirable.

Consistent with our Jesuit and Catholic mission, we believe that diversity is central to the excellence of our academic programs, and we strive to create an academic community and campus culture that attracts and facilitates the development of promising and diverse teacher-scholars. As our student body becomes increasingly diverse, we are especially interested in candidates with substantive experience and commitment to teaching and mentoring students of different races and ethnicities, from a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. at the time of appointment is required.
