Position OverviewThis position is accountable for sampling, testing and reporting of Portland Cement Concrete (P.C.C.) for various construction projects within the district.
Essential Functions- Performs Quality Control (QC) testing of Portland Cement Concrete (P.C.C.), cement stabilized aggregates, and related mixtures.
- Performs and reports inspection of P.C.C., aggregates, and other construction materials as needed.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with contractors and other Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) personnel assigned to construction projects.
- Ensures the proper use, calibration, and maintenance of testing equipment.
- Ensures the completeness and accuracy of test data, reports, data entry, and other record keeping.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules and in a manner that promotes fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre‑engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR Six years of engineering/construction/materials experience.
- Certification in P.C.C. Level I with the IDOT Quality Management Training Program.
- Working knowledge of mathematics.
- Skill in the use of laboratory testing equipment and engineering field and office instruments.
- Working knowledge of plans and ability to read them.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Daily district wide travel.
- Ability to work overtime and some nighttime work as needed.
- Successful completion of background screening.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5‑45 apply to this position.
- This position meets the requirements in section 4A‑101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
- All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest, including the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission.
