Civil / Structural Engineer – American Electric Power, Fulton, AR.
Job SummaryResponsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic manner.
Job DescriptionTwo levels are considered for this position and candidates will be evaluated for the highest position to which they qualify based on experience and educational background.
What you’ll do- Technical Expertise: Possess advanced knowledge and perform varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and conduct extensive analyses. Understand the interrelationship between systems and component equipment, analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.
- Leadership and Guidance: Coordinate work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary. Perform routine engineering activity independently and provide training and guidance to lower‑level employees. Plan and forecast costs for routine projects and improvement requisitions.
- Problem Solving and Initiative: Resolve and initiate solutions to routine and moderately complex problems that may require additional definition or clarification before analysis. Identify problems beyond normal routine and seek out opportunities for new ideas and approaches.

Skills:
Lead aspects of team effort and effectively leverage skills developed from company programs such as Power Up & Lead.
- Typically 4 or more years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil Engineering strongly preferred) accredited by ABET; or 2 years of related engineering experience with a Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program may be considered for entry at this level.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
- Acceptable alternative: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non‑ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s program. Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
- Typically 6 or more years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering accredited by ABET; or 4 years of related engineering experience with a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
The position may be based in Tulsa, OK;
Fulton, AR;
Hallsville, TX;
Lawton, OK; or Shreveport, LA.
Compensation Grade: SP20-007.
Range: $85,081.00 – $ USD.
sedentary workload; may require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects up to 10 pounds occasionally. Walking or standing may be required only occasionally.
