The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team, delivering superior quality of service and providing appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist clients in basic living skills and daily personal tasks, including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal prep and planning, and financial budgeting.
- Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed; valid Arkansas driver’s license required.
- Maintain good communication via facility logbook, staff meetings, etc., about clients’ needs and progress toward their plan of care by the end of shift.
- Accurately complete all required documentation per FCC (behavioral reports, incident reports, complaint forms, personal care worksheets, requisitions, maintenance forms, progress reports, monthly attendance logs, and other required documents).
- Follow documentation and maintenance procedures for FTA vehicles, maintaining mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Report incidents and emergencies immediately to supervisors or delegated authorities.
- Assist in the formulation, management, revision, and follow‑through of the client’s Plan of Care.
- Follow medication management guidelines and assist with monitoring and documentation.
- Organize and carry out recreational activities for clients.
- Model appropriate behavior through physical appearance, dress code, and actions.
- Treat clients and families with dignity and respect, representing FCC’s mission.
- Assist in maintaining FCC facilities, grounds, and vehicles (cleaning and preventive maintenance).
- Attend necessary training and continue education.
- Provide proof of liability insurance and maintain coverage.
- Undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrate proficiency; may use personal vehicle with sufficient liability coverage to transport participants.
- High school diploma or GED; or at least two years of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
- Valid driver’s license.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to clients and staff.
Mathematical/Computer SkillsAbility to perform basic arithmetic, calculate rates and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityApply commonsense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions, and interpret various instruction formats.
Physical DemandsRegularly use hands, stand, walk, reach, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Requires vision for close, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Security & ComplianceMaintain confidentiality per Friendship Community Care Non‑Disclosure Policy and HIPAA; comply with FCC Code of Conduct and compliance procedures; maintain consumer records as required.
