Overview
The HR Manager is an on‑site, hands‑on, collaborative HR partner to business leaders and employees. The incumbent is responsible for local management and delivery of HR operations and programs such as policy interpretation and compliance, talent acquisition and onboarding, orientation, employee and labor relations, record maintenance, reporting and analysis, leave administration, employee development and performance, and compensation. The role requires a nuanced approach to anticipate opportunities and act as an effective influencer and manager of culture and change, delivering value‑added service and programs that reflect business objectives.
Responsibilities- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Collaborate and align with centralized HR methods for benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, learning and development, rewards, and payroll.
- Seek synergies and alignment with organizational processes and policies; maintain local practices and policies in an organized way as directed.
- Manage leaves of absence, workers’ compensation, FMLA, and ADA accommodations, including record maintenance and coordination with outside agencies and vendors.
- Administer the affirmative‑action plan and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion at the location.
- Ensure job descriptions are updated annually and provide local and regional salary information to assist management in determining appropriate pay rates.
- Manage employee‑relations issues, including disciplinary methods and arbitration; manage union‑location contract negotiations, grievances, arbitration, and other labor‑relations issues; work with the Director of Employee and Labor Relations for guidance when necessary; investigate and maintain documentation of employee complaints and participate in EEOC meetings.
- Guide leaders through performance‑management activities such as reviews, disciplinary reviews, and terminations; document information throughout the process; mitigate risk and escalates to the HR Director when appropriate.
- Support continuous learning and development through training, goal setting, reviews, and succession planning.
- Model and promote teamwork and company values.
- Coordinate local employee special events such as open houses, cookouts, and picnics.
- Maintain accurate employee records using the Human Resources Information System and local methods for payroll, vacation schedules, and records of absences and tardiness; work with a third‑party vendor to coordinate leaves and keep the system up to date; process retirement paperwork.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, and signs.
- Minimum 4‑year bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business, or a related field.
- SHRM‑CP or SHRM‑SCP preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience with supervisory responsibilities.
- Ability to think critically, make decisions quickly, solve problems with high attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform work independently.
- Ability to maintain confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment regularly.
- Ability to seek clarification from a supervisor when needed.
- Ability to work from general policies and objectives.
- Knowledge of applicant‑tracking systems and processes.
- Skill in using computer programs to input, store, retrieve data and generate reports.
