Location: Berryville

The SENIOR CENTER DIRECTOR is directly supervised by the DIRECTOR OF SENIOR SERVICES. Promotes goodwill and cordiality to the public; enforces all applicable health, sanitary and safety regulations; supervises personnel; coordinates and maximizes use of volunteers; ensures hours of operation are followed; monitors kitchen operations; monitors transportation operations; maintains budgetary control; plans activities for clients; organizes and promotes fund-raising events; completes required daily records and submits reports as scheduled;

conducts outreach for new clients; promotes information and referral services to all elderly residents in community; performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promotes goodwill and cordiality to the public: encourages goodwill through good public relations with local officials, citizens and merchants; maintains a warm, hospitable and courteous atmosphere in the Center; keeps public apprized of services available; and assures good relations among Center staff members.
  • Enforces all applicable health, sanitary, and safety regulations: ensures compliance with regulations governing program operation; provides information to Center staff members on appropriate regulations as needed.
  • Supervises personnel: oversees personnel assigned to center to ensure duties are sufficiently performed; plans and approves employee leave time following guidelines in Personnel Procedures; provides necessary training or recommends training needs to DIRECTOR of SENIOR SERVICES; assures proper care of equipment and facility; evaluates the performance of staff members annually.
  • Coordinates and maximizes use of volunteers: develops source of volunteers in community; provides any necessary training; plans recognition and awards for volunteers.
  • Ensures hours of operation are followed: publicizes hours of operation by posting in Center and notifying clients; ensures staff members are present during scheduled work hours; ensures inclement weather policy is followed.
  • Monitors kitchen operations: assists Food Service Manager in planning food and supply purchases; ensures maximum utilization of raw food and supplies; maintains accurate ongoing inventories; eliminates pilfering of food and supplies through inventory controls; ensures proper menus are followed according to schedule; notifies the DIRECTOR of SENIOR SERVICES of menu deviations; enforces portion control and food temperature regulations; monitors proper packaging and delivery of Home‑Delivered Meals;

    ensures proper storage of food and supplies; hires replacement labor personnel on a temporary basis as needed; assumes kitchen duties during staff absence when necessary.
  • Monitors transportation operations: assures maximum ridership at minimum mileage for each route; remains knowledgeable of all routes; enforces pre‑trip checks and post‑trip cleaning of vans by drivers; notifies DIRECTOR of SENIOR SERVICES of needed repairs and makes recommendations; enforces policies for maintenance and repair of vehicles; ensures proper maintenance records are maintained; hires replacement drivers on a temporary basis as needed;

    assumes driving duties during staff absence when necessary.
  • Maintains budgetary control for senior center: monitors purchases and expenditures; recommends building improvements, repairs and equipment purchases based on need and budget constraints; enforces Project Income Policy and Procedures.
  • Plans activities for clients: promotes an active Site Council; enforces Site Council rules; organizes, promotes and conducts regularly scheduled activities (i.e., arts and crafts, excursions, sports, games, music, dramatics, etc.); posts and notifies local media of monthly schedule of activities; encourages participation in annual events such as Regional and State Senior Games.
  • Organize and promote fund‑raising events: will provide and conduct fund‑raising events as needed to reach annual Project Income goals.
