To ensure our product quality, we control the manufacturing process in Decatur, from consistent quality checks on all raw materials coming into the plant, to the shipment of our finished product to customers. What

You’ll Accomplish

The Production Operator position is involved in all aspects of the production of our premium pet food. They set up, operate, and disassemble processing equipment in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). They operate multiple types of processing equipment, including extrusion, injection molding, dryers, cutting, and packaging machinery according to scheduled production needs. Operators maintain their assigned production area, follow safety procedures and cleanliness standards, troubleshoot equipment issues, and complete required food safety checks to ensure first‑time right production.

Day‑to‑Day

Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and disassemble processing equipment in accordance with SOPs and GMPs according to the production schedule.
  • Troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Monitor product, completing various checks to ensure product is running according to job specifications.
  • Review and follow the production schedule throughout the shift.
  • Adjust equipment during product changeovers.
  • Check and document product according to SOPs to ensure the highest quality standards.
  • Clean work area according to sanitation SOPs. Maintain cleanliness throughout the work shift.
  • Use various tools to make adjustments, perform small repairs, and basic maintenance as required.
  • Complete re‑work as necessary.
  • Maintain records and logs within the designated production system during the entire production process.
  • Perform and document in‑process quality checks on a periodic basis on representative samples to ensure that product is correctly produced/packaged.
  • Clean, disassemble, and reassemble line equipment to prepare machines for inspection and/or deep cleaning.
  • Alter machine settings for changeovers and load product, components, printer material, etc.; check the line and obtain line clearance for the next run.
  • Actively follow safety procedures and policies in all job tasks.
  • Hold others accountable for following all company GMPs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Workplace Safety
  • Complete safety system documentation and verify compliance with program standards. Report deviations to Supervisor.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Report all safety issues, near misses, and injuries.
Quality & Food Safety
  • Complete quality & food safety system documentation and verify compliance with program standards. Report deviations to Supervisor.
  • Participate in mandatory food safety and quality training program requirements.
  • Preserve the integrity of the BRC system through adherence to the policies and procedures outlined.
  • Take actions necessary to resolve food safety and quality system deficiencies.
  • Report food safety and quality system failures and take actions necessary to preserve the BRC system.
