Primary Objective of the PositionTo conduct routine and special raw materials and control testing in a manner that contributes to the production of high quality company products. To perform environmental testing to ensure compliance with government regulations. To perform technical assignments relating to improvement efforts in the manufacturing process.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- 1+ years’ experience conducting chemical testing, analysis and reporting.
- Experience with MS Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with other departments and personnel.
- Recognition and protection of the confidential nature of research and development work.
- Ability to complete assigned responsibilities under minimal supervision.
- Performs chemical analyses of raw materials and in-process products and reports test results in accordance with established standards.
- Prepares reagent chemical solutions for use in testing according to prescribed methods.
- Conducts technical assignments related to improvement efforts in the manufacturing process, including experiments, reporting, analysis and recommendations.
- Participates in process monitoring and control activities.
- Purchases lab equipment and supplies at favorable cost, following company procedures.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs on lab equipment, including calibration testing.
- Arranges for outside repair services as necessary.
- Prepares reports of in-progress and completed tests and analyses to provide project status information to management.
- Observes and enforces safety and housekeeping regulations related to chemical testing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: Some sitting with considerable standing and walking. Lifting and carrying testing equipment, chemicals, etc. up to 40 pounds. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
Mental Requirements: Good reading skills, problem‑solving, reasoning, attention to detail, math comprehension, verbal and written communication, flexibility, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Equipment Used: Personal computer, chemistry laboratory equipment.
Working Environment: About 25% spent in manufacturing environment with exposure to dirt, dust, noise, odors, mechanical parts, lubricants, and hazardous materials. Some time outside walking between buildings.
Additional Desired Qualifications- Experience working with explosive chemicals and products.
- Experience with Minitab.
- Chemical technical degree from a vocational college.
Starting hourly rate: $20.67. Actual salary will be based on experience, location, education and skills.
