Objective of the Position:
The Communications Specialist supports the district's communications and public engagement efforts under the direction of the Communications Director. This role manages the district's online platforms and social media presence, gathers content from schools and departments, and creates written, visual, and multimedia content that informs and engages students, families, staff, and the community.
Responsibilities of the Position: (other duties may be assigned)
- Content Collection & Coordination
- Build relationships with principals, teachers, and staff across schools to source stories, photos, and updates
- Coordinate a regular content calendar with input from schools and district departments
- Attend school and district events to document activities for communications use
- Assist in developing systems for staff to submit content and story ideas
- Content Creation
- Write, edit, and produce engaging content for the district website, social media, newsletters, and email communications
- Design graphics, flyers, and other visual materials for district and school use
- Take and edit photos and video at district events, schools, and classrooms
- Draft press releases, talking points, and internal announcements as needed
- Platform Management
- Maintain and update the district website, ensuring content is accurate, current, and accessible
- Manage day-to-day posting and engagement across district social media accounts
- Monitor platforms for community feedback, questions, and concerns, escalating as appropriate
- Track and report engagement metrics and analytics
- Support & Collaboration
- Assist the Communications Director with crisis and emergency communications as needed
- Ensure all content reflects district brand standards, voice, and messaging guidelines
- Assist with translation coordination or accessibility needs for diverse family populations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises student interns on projects, job duties, and quality of work. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to interpret and utilize social media engagement data to inform and make recommendations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must be able to travel between school buildings, districts, and cities. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
