Delta Heritage Trail State Park is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Interpreter to inspire visitors through outdoor recreation along our 84‑mile rails‑to‑trail corridor in the Arkansas Delta. This role brings one of eastern Arkansas’s most remote and scenic landscapes to life through programs such as E‑bike tours, bicycle and paddling excursions, hikes, interpretive walks, workshops, and community events.

The ideal candidate is passionate about outdoor recreation, skilled at creating safe and engaging experiences for visitors of all abilities, and eager to showcase the Delta’s natural beauty, local communities, and rich stories through the lens of outdoor recreation.

Because the trail spans a wide two‑hour area, this is an active, travel‑heavy position. The Interpreter must be comfortable working independently, navigating remote areas, managing multiple priorities, and adapting programs to changing conditions.

Applicant must have or be able to complete required Bicycle Safety Training, the AGFC Boater Education Course, the American Canoe Association Introduction to Kayaking, the American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course, and ARC CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Applicant must have a high comfort level with being on the water, strong swimming skills, and fitness for the outdoor pursuits described in this announcement.

Applicant must have knowledge of Arkansas flora, fauna, and outdoor recreation safety standards and ethics. Applicant must have technical and communication skills sufficient to plan and coordinate safe, organized, engaging programs and special events.

Must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to traverse terrain on foot and bicycle, and work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays in widely varying weather conditions outdoors. A criminal background check and a driver’s record check are required.

The preferred candidate will have strong experience in outdoor recreation skills including cycling, boating (motorized and paddle sport), camping, fishing, hiking and birding, and interpretation. In addition to strong experience in outdoor recreation skills, the preferred candidate will have excellent communication and engagement skills, commitment to teamwork, and a demonstrated commitment to providing memorable, enjoyable visitor experiences.

Arkansas State Parks, Arkansas Heritage and Arkansas Tourism. Arkansas State Parks manages 52 state parks and promotes Arkansas as a tourist destination for people around the country. Arkansas Heritage preserves and promotes Arkansas’s natural and cultural history and heritage through four historic museums and four cultural preservation agencies. Arkansas Tourism improves the state’s economy by generating travel and enhancing the image of the state.

The Parks, Heritage, and Tourism Interpreter II is responsible for developing and conducting engaging interpretive programs that educate and inspire visitors about Arkansas’s natural, cultural, and historical resources.
