Drax is hiring a Sustainability Forester to manage responsible forest operations supporting our renewable biomass supply chain. Based near our US operations, you'll plan and oversee sustainable harvesting, conduct forest inventories and audits, and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and forestry regulations. You'll work closely with landowners and contractors on harvest, reforestation, and conservation plans, monitor ecological impacts, support certification programs, and provide data and reporting that advance Drax's low carbon, sustainability driven mission.
Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee sustainable forestry operations to supply biomass fiber
- Conduct forest inventories, audits, and site assessments for Drax supply areas
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and forestry regulations and certifications
- Collaborate with landowners, contractors, and mills on harvest and reforestation plans
- Monitor biodiversity, soil, and water impacts; recommend mitigation actions
- Collect and analyze forest data to support sustainability reporting and chain of custody
- Support certification schemes (e.g., FSC, SFI, PEFC) and internal audits
- Promote safety-first practices across field activities and contractor operations
- Contribute forestry expertise to cross-functional biomass and logistics projects
- Prepare technical reports, maps, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
