Overview
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.
Responsibilities- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical exams and diagnostics
- Create treatment plans
- Provide dentistry services
- Observe and assist with surgical procedures
- Manage patients’ medical care
- Develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Externship experiences at Hillcrest Animal Hospital typically range from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate.
StipendVeterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Please refer to the stipend amounts and program details.
