MedicalLab Scientist, Advanced in the Stem Cell Lab at Duke University Hospital – Second Shift
Monday – Friday, Second Shift: either 11:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. One on‑call weekend per month.
This position is eligible for the second‑shift differential and a $5,000 commitment bonus.
Stem Cell or Blood Bank experience, as well as ASCP certification strongly preferred.
General DescriptionPerform a variety of routine and complex technical tasks in the performance of laboratory tests and procedures to obtain data for use in the treatment of disease. Job duties include, but are not limited to, quality control, clerical tasks (EMMES data entry, patient lab file reviews, completion of CIBMTR forms, etc.).
- ABO Typing
- Viability testing
- Sterility testing
- Thawing of cellular products (37°C, Dextran Albumin Thaws)
- Cryopreservation of autologous and allogeneic cellular products to include, but not limited to: HPC, Cord Blood, Apheresis, Marrow, MNC, Apheresis, etc.
- Receipt and/or distribution of incoming or outgoing NMDP cellular products using sterile techniques

- Sysmex XN-450 hematology analyzer (or equivalent)
- BacTAlert 3D Microbiology analyzer

- LN2 vapor freezers
- Light microscope
- LN2 dry shippers (MVE, etc.)
- Sorvall RC3C Plus refrigerated centrifuge or equivalent
- Mini‑vortex
- Sebra heat sealer
- Sterile tubing welder
- Pipets
- Plasma extractor
- Digital scale
- Manual tubing stripper
- Demand 128 label printer and labeling software (Digi Trax)
- Cellometer
- Miltenyi CliniMACS
