Salary: $34,000 to $38,750 Per Year
PurposeThe Security Officer supports the physical safety of students and school staff by enforcing and implementing security procedures and ensuring security protocols are respected by students, staff, and visitors.
Nature & ScopeThe Security Officer works independently following standardized routines under general supervision. The role requires strict adherence to District and school policies and state and federal statutes, frequent interaction with students and the general public, and professional decorum as a role model for young people.
Job Responsibilities- Serve as Second-in-Command to the Commissioned School Security Officer (CSSO) regarding all security concerns and in the CSSO's absence.
- Participate in hiring, certification, training, security staffing needs, and provide oversight for arrivals, dismissals, or school crossings.
- Supervise building security officers.
- Create a school environment that ensures the general safety of students and staff.
- Monitor security patrols of assigned school site.
- Conduct oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and the District’s mission.
- Patrol school buildings and grounds before, during, and after school hours to protect against trespassing, loitering, vandalism, and similar risks.
- Respond to security service calls.
- Monitor student parking lots, manage issuance of parking permits, enforce parking regulations, issue citations, and ensure safe driving.
- Monitor non‑District personnel and direct them to the office or off‑premises; evaluate seriousness of situations and call for assistance as needed.
- Supervise and maintain order and crowd control at school functions, including athletic competitions, social events, and large gatherings.
- Enforce all District rules and policies relating to safety and security of buildings, grounds, and students; assist in gathering data on misconduct and violations.
- Provide emergency intervention in situations of immediate danger.
- Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and other staff regarding student behavior and conduct.
- Respond to reports of hazardous conditions, disturbances, or suspicious activities; report any illegal activities or unsafe conditions.
- Assist investigations of reports of property loss, theft, assault, or other crimes; collect and preserve evidence for local law enforcement; ensure property damage is reported to the appropriate school or District departments.
- Serve as liaison to local law enforcement officials and School Resource Officers to address and resolve issues of mutual concern.
- Maintain security records, logs, and reports.
- Maintain effective and respectful working relationships with staff and students.
- Provide ongoing training and assistance to site‑based staff in matters of safety and security services.
- Be available to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Direct traffic in the school parking lot, especially during drop‑off and pick‑up times for students and parents; assist in crosswalk duties to stop vehicles so that students can enter and exit campus.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a criminal background check and child maltreatment screening.
- No misdemeanor or felony arrests or convictions.
- Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
- Must have full‑time certification through the Arkansas Standards on Law Enforcement.
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and follow multi‑step written and verbal instructions in English.
The Campus Supervisor works both indoors and outdoors. The position requires the ability to write, hear, speak, run, stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, and lift up to 75 pounds. Potential exposures may include blood borne pathogens and interaction with sick, injured, or agitated students. The position requires high levels of interaction with children and families from diverse backgrounds, many of whom experience behavioral, academic, or physiological challenges.

Work EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The environment is generally in a school setting or on district property with frequent contact with students and adults. Employees will be exposed to the elements and subject to weather conditions while performing some tasks associated with this position.
