Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain, install, and repair plumbing systems, including domestic hot and cold water, sanitary, storm systems, and related piping, valves, pumps, and water heating equipment.
  • Install, alter, maintain, and repair a variety of plumbing apparatuses such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, shower units, faucets, mixing valves, recirculation pumps, water heaters, automatic faucets, and automatic flush valves.
  • Clear drain lines using a variety of equipment.
  • Make repairs and alterations to a variety of piping systems, including copper, steel, PVC, CPVC, cast iron, and PEX, and repair pipe insulation when necessary.
  • Create rough sketches to generate parts lists and estimate material costs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Work with contractors as needed to meet campus needs, and oversee contractors performing repairs on sprinkler systems.
  • Install, service, and repair commercial appliances in laundromat and kitchen settings, including washing machines, dryers, dishwashing machines, steamers, and soda fountains.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge and experience using all tools in the Plumbing Trade.
  • Knowledge of Plumbing, Gas and Building Codes related to installation of water, sewer, gas, and fire systems.
  • Knowledge of new construction, renovations, and repair best practices.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to plan jobs, create estimates, and develop plumbing sketches and layouts.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Plumbing Journeyman or Master Certification.
  • Gas Fitters Certification.
Additional Considerations
  • Backflow Certification.
  • Experience with a computerized work management system.

This position has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2 1201.1. A fingerprint based criminal history check will be required of the finalist.
