Mechanic Lead

GFL Environmental is seeking a Mechanic Lead to oversee maintenance and repair of our waste collection and environmental services fleet. In this on-site role, you will perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel trucks and heavy equipment, coordinate and prioritize shop work, and ensure all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards. You will mentor junior technicians, maintain accurate service records, and partner with operations to minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day shop operations and coordinate workload for mechanics and technicians
• Perform advanced diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on diesel trucks and heavy equipment
• Conduct inspections to ensure fleet safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance
• Develop and oversee preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
• Mentor and train junior technicians on proper repair methods and safety practices
• Maintain accurate work orders, parts usage, and maintenance records in company systems
• Collaborate with operations to prioritize repairs and support route readiness
• Ensure adherence to safety procedures, PPE use, and environmental regulations in the shop
• Communicate equipment status and repair timelines to supervisors and dispatch
• Assist with parts sourcing, inventory control, and vendor coordination as needed
